Karmas return, p.22
Karma's Return, page 22
Propping myself onto my elbow, I intertwined my left hand with hers.
“It scares me that you’re going to college, and we’ll be in different states.”
“Why? We’re already in different states and we’re still together.”
“I know, but everything will be new and exciting to you. You’ll get new friends and there will be plenty of guys who will want your attention.”
The edge of Emma’s lip tilted upward. “I thought you said college is boring.”
“Perhaps I just had unrealistic expectations. I thought it would be a lot of partying, but our coach is fucking worse than an army sergeant and we’re not allowed to do shit.”
“Does he still have you do that report on how much you pee?”
“No, that was only for a week, but there’s a certain diet I have to eat, amount of water I have to drink, and the practice is rigorous. College might be fun for people without an athletic scholarship, but for those of us who play sports, it’s about following rules and working hard.”
“I hope OSU’s basketball coach is more reasonable.”
“Why?” I furrowed my brow. “You’re going to Oregon.”
Emma’s eyes were gorgeous when she smiled. “Actually, I’ve decided to go to Ohio.”
My mouth fell open. “You’re joking.”
“No.”
Pushing myself up to sit, I spoke in a fast ramble. “You know that I would love for us to be at the same college, but don’t do it for me. You need to think about you first.”
“I am. Ohio’s team is in the top five teams nationally and their coach has high ambitions. Besides, I heard OSU has the best-looking football player in the country.”
I grinned. “You’re serious?”
“Yes, I have pictures. Wanna see?” Emma took her phone and showed me her home screen with a picture of me.
“No, I mean about you coming to my college in September.”
“Your college?” She arched her eyebrow.
“You know what I mean.”
By now, Emma was laughing. “You have no idea how hard it’s been to not tell you. I didn’t want to give you false hope or have us dream about something that might not happen. Their coach reached out to me in December. Apparently, the incoming point guard they had a verbal agreement with had personal problems that will make it impossible to pass her classes. She won’t be graduating this year.”
“Okay, but what did Oregon say when you told them you declined?”
Emma shrugged. “They wished me luck and told me to contact them if it doesn’t work out in Ohio.”
I reached over and pulled Emma on top of me. “I can’t believe that you’re coming to OSU. That means we’ll see each other all the time.”
She kissed me. “All your fans won’t be too happy about your girlfriend showing up. I’ll bet you have a whole flock of women drooling over you.”
I pushed her hair away from her face. “I’m not denying that there are some who have shown an interest in me, but I already told you that no one gets me like you do.”
“You could hire a psychologist if you want to feel understood,” Emma joked.
“Why would I do that when my girlfriend is the perfect package of kind, sexy, and insightful?”
In a playful tone, Emma teased, “I’m sorry, I think I missed it – would you repeat that, please?”
“You can put that cheeky grin away. You know damn well that I’m as crazy about you now as I was when I first convinced you to give me a chance fifteen months ago.”
“Fifteen. Wow, that’s very specific.”
“Don’t tell me you forgot how long we’ve been dating.” My hands slid down her back tugging at her cream-colored sweater.
I stopped when suddenly Emma stiffened. “What’s wrong, Em?”
“It’s just that there’s something I’ve never told you.”
“What?” My brain went through worst-case scenarios. “Have you been with someone else?”
“No. Of course not.”
“Then what is it?”
“I used to think that around the time you and I got together, I somehow moved between dimensions.”
“Excuse me?”
“I know it sounds weird, but I was this insecure and depressed person without friends and then suddenly everything changed in a week. How is that possible?”
“Did you get hit by a ball to your head today?” I placed my hand on her forehead.
“No.”
“People don’t change dimensions.”
Emma rested her head on my chest. “Forget I said it.”
“First tell me this. Was I equally amazing in both dimensions?”
“I wouldn’t know. We didn’t talk in the other dimension. You were with Maddie and didn’t see me.”
“Then I was an idiot. Good thing we’re in this dimension.” I kissed the top of her hair. “I was impressed when you sent me a handwritten letter and asked me to go on a walk with you.”
“When I think back on that day it feels foggy, like a dream.”
“Does it?” I kept stroking her soft hair. “Remember we talked about the toxic culture on your team, and I told you to take leadership?”
“Hmm.” Her breathing was relaxed, and her eyes closed. “Are you trying to take credit for me being team captain this year?”
“All I’m saying is that I’m pleased that you listened to your elders,” I joked.
“Tsk.” Emma raised her head to look at me. “You’re one year older.”
“Don’t forget that I’m a college student while you’re still in high school.”
“Not for long.”
Her words made me lock my arms around her and take in the amazing feeling of Emma’s body on top of mine. “I still can’t believe that you’re moving to Ohio.”
“I want to be with you.” Emma’s sweet words made me close my eyes for a second as intense love for her filled me from head to toe. When I kissed her, she reciprocated with passion, letting her tongue roll around mine.
Remembering how tired she had been in the car on the way home, I pulled back a little to look at her. “It’s okay, Em. We don’t have to do this. I know you’re spent from the games and the party. We’ve got all night and morning. If you want to sleep, I understand.”
Emma reached for me with a smile. “Are you trying to get out of making love to me?”
“Not in a million years.”
“Good, because in that other dimension, I fantasized about being with you. Now that you’re my boyfriend, I want to enjoy you as much as I can.”
I pulled my sweater off. My desire for her was pumping through my body with a raw intensity that I had never experienced with anyone else.
With Emma I could feel completely at ease and be myself. We could talk about everything, and I was painfully aware that what I had with her was rare and hard to find.
“I want us to be together until we’re one hundred,” I said while undressing her.
“I might be dead before then.”
Looking deep into her eyes, I declared, “Then I’ll marry you again in my next life.”
Emma made a sweet cooing sound and pressed her body to mine. “How will we recognize each other?”
“We’ll know.”
Emma licked on my earlobe. “If you don’t figure it out by yourself, I’ll have to write you a letter again. It worked in this lifetime; it might work in the next one as well.”
We shared a long smile before I assured her. “Don’t worry. If it feels like it’s meant to be then I’ll know it’s you.”

How do you hide your powers and pretend to be human when your anger alone makes the windows freeze over?
Thousands of years ago when humans still lived in caves, Gaia took an oath to keep humans connected to nature. At the time it seemed like an easy promise to make but much has changed.
Desperate to get humans back on track, Gaia goes down to earth and enrolls at a Scottish boarding school where four old souls have the potential to become historical change-makers.
How will Gaia react when one of them turns out to be a soulmate from a previous life with whom she has unfinished business? Can she steady her heart and keep her focus? If she doesn’t get these four flawed human beings to step up and share their talents, will she run out of what little patience she has left and accidentally unleash another Ice Age?

Pearl Beacon
As a young child, Pearl’s ability to see spirits freaked out her parents. For a while, her father, who is an engineer, tried hard to find logical explanations for the physical phenomena that happened around Pearl. When she was around nine or ten, she began helping lost spirits into the light until she saw a local shaman who helped her realize that Pearl’s purpose in this lifetime isn’t to assist the dead but to help the living.
Today, she has honed her gift and become an expert at communicating with spirit guides. Pearl aims to reach and serve as many people as possible, which is why her books are meant to entertain while giving insight into some of the spiritual values that she practices in life such as tolerance, kindness, and fairness. The stories are fictional, fast-paced, entertaining, and always with a twist of something otherworldly because that is her comfort zone.
When Pearl isn’t writing, speaking, or doing sessions, she lives a quiet life close to nature surrounded by people she loves and the family dog, Lucky, who thinks Pearl hugs and kisses him too much. But how can she not when tapping into the astral and causal level fills her with an overwhelming sense of love for all living beings?

Bonus Chapter
Some of the first ARC readers who got their hands on Karma’s Return told us they would have loved to know more about some of Karma previous lives that she refers to in the book.
We have written a short story about the life Karma had 25,000 years ago when she lived in what is now called Russia as a proud member of the Mammoth Slayers.
It’s the life she thought back to when she remembered being a young, infatuated man who risked his life by climbing up a steep mountain wall only to descend into the Devil’s Deep. All to get the woman he loved.
